The Estate of Francis Bacon is pleased to announce a forthcoming Francis Bacon and Henry Moore UK exhibition entitled 'Bacon / Moore: Flesh and Bones' at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, University of Oxford, from September 12th 2013 to January 5th 2014. This major exhibition will display twenty works each by two giants of twentieth-century western art, including Bacon's above 'Portrait of Man with Glasses III', 1963*. Despite working in different media, Bacon and Moore were exhibited together from the end of the Second World War into the 1960s when both were represented by Marlborough Fine Art. Carefully chosen to highlight the important influences and experiences which they shared, this new exhibition aims to bring a fresh perspective to Francis Bacon and Henry Moore, exploring themes in their work such as ‘the Biomorphic / Picassoesque form’, ‘the human head’, and ‘the Classical figure’. We will be sure to update audiences of further details as they become available. The Estate of Francis Bacon is delighted to be working with the The Henry Moore Foundation and the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, audiences are encouraged to visit their websites for information on Henry Moore and the exhibition venue respectively.
