Bacon's 'Self-Portrait' 1956 Displayed in the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Permanent Collection Exhibition

Updated - exhibition extended. Francis Bacon's 'Self-Portrait' (1956) is on display at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth as part of their exhibition: 'Selections from the Permanent Collection' currently running until February 8th 2014. The piece is the earliest surviving self-portrait by Bacon, painted from memory when the artist was forty-seven years old. It depicts the artist hunched over and isolated, anchored in the in the centre of the vast canvas. His face is constructed with asymmetrical features, with the right side harshly raised, the right eye reduced to a crude circle.
