ICA London present 'FB55', an archival display exploring Francis Bacon's first ever solo institutional exhibition in the UK in 1955. In 1955 the ICA's former premises on Dover Street was host to Bacon's original landmark show. The exhibition was organised with the help of philanthropist, collector and ICA founder Peter Watson - then the richest man in Britain and a longstanding Bacon supporter. 'FB55' is displaying now through to 17 May 2015 in the ICA Fox Reading Room. The show includes print reproductions of originally displayed works, rare installation photographs of the 1955 exhibition, press reviews, publications, invitation cards and other rarely seen documents from the ICA’s archive. Print reproductions of works originally displayed in 1955 are on show including the pictured Figure with Meat (1954), Portrait (1932), Figure with Monkey (1951), Three Studies of the Human Head (1953) and many more.
