EXPLORING FRANCIS BACON'S EARLY DESIGN WORK: A 20TH ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION AT EAC

Posted on 2024-06-18 09:41:44 in EVENTS

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Albers-Honegger Donation building, eac is showcasing an exhibition dedicated to a lesser-known aspect of Francis Bacon's work: the furniture he created in the early 1930s. The exhibit explores the influences of French design, post-Cubism, and the Bauhaus movement on Bacon’s work, highlighting his avant-garde interior design praised in The Studio magazine.

The exhibition includes a notable collection of Bacon's paintings, furniture, rugs, and archival documents. It also features works by Roy de Maistre, Fernand Léger, and Pablo Picasso to contextualise the period and its influences on Bacon. A significant part is devoted to Fernand Léger's “Purist” period, reflected in Bacon's geometric rug designs.

The displayed works come from the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation, housing Majid Boustany's private collection, which holds the foremost group of Bacon's furniture and rugs from this era.

The exhibition runs from June 9, 2024, to January 5, 2025, and is co-produced with the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation, Monaco.
