Light into Density: Abstract Encounters 1920s–1960s is a new exhibition at the Manetti Shrem Museum in Davis California and has been created by students from the University of California. The exhibition will feature 15 works from the collection of Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem, including pieces by Salvador Dalí, Vassily Kandinsky, Joan Miró, and Francis Bacon. Most of these paintings are on public view for the first time in decades.

This exhibition was curated and designed by 30 students on the Winter 2024 Exhibition Design course, taught by Professor Timothy McNeil and Associate Professor Brett Snyder. The exhibition encourages visitors to explore the deeply personal nature of abstraction and find their own interpretations.

Light into Density: Abstract Encounters 1920s–1960s will be on display from September 19, 2024, to May 5, 2025. Find out more here.
