The Worcester Art Museum is set to host Twentieth-Century Nudes from Tate, a special exhibition running from November 23, 2024, to March 9, 2025. This show will feature iconic works from Tate's collection, showcasing how the depiction of the nude evolved in the 20th century.
The exhibition, curated by Emma Chambers and Claire Whitner, will feature many significant works on loan from Tate, with an emphasis on how the nude has been transformed and reinterpreted over the years. It will examine how artists like Picasso, Matisse, and Bacon used the nude to explore deeper issues of identity, race, and gender. It will include thematic sections on the private, abstracted, surreal, and realist nudes, culminating in a tactile exploration of paint as flesh.
