Bacon studio material, unknown photographer, Jacques Dupin, ca. 1980s. Collection: Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane © The Estate of Francis Bacon
The writer, poet and gallery director Jacques Dupin first met Bacon through Isabel Rawsthorne. Dupin was for a time heavily involved with the Galerie Maeght in Paris and in the run up to Bacon’s exhibition there in 1966, they saw more and more of each other. As with many of Bacon’s friends, Dupin was later made the subject of a painting, Portrait of Jacques Dupin, 1990.
