"[14 November 1950] Francis Bacon came to lunch. Bill took us to the Casa Prada where the customers entering through the swing doors then pushing curtains aside and coming into the restaurant behind a glass panelled screen were a perfect tribute to the guest. Francis gave us some wonderful illustrations of the things that interest him, 'a trap set out and a smear across it, a kind of slime, showing that a human being had passed through'. This might not be the best of how he feels; he is a very intelligent and comprehending man as well as one with extraordinary and perverse intuitions." p. 92
